With more than 400 participants, SOCPA and IESBA held a workshop on the impact of advancements in technology on accounting ethics

The Saudi Organization for Chartered and Professional Accountants (SOCPA) and the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA) held a joint workshop on the impact of advancements in technology on accounting ethics. The workshop saw the participation of more than 400 person of distinguished specialists and those interested in the accounting and auditing profession.

The opening speech was delivered by the CEO of SOCPA, his excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Abdullah Al mughames, where he thanked the attendees for their active participation and highlighted SOCPA's efforts in spreading awareness among accountants of the new developments by IESBA. His excellency extended his gratitude for the participants for their role in enriching the conversation about the board's initiative on understanding the impact of technology on accounting ethics.
Dr. Al mughames then proceeded to stress that SOCPA is keen on contributing to the efforts to establish the best related practices to the fields of accountancy. He also emphasized that SOCPA is interested in enriching discussions around this topic and exchange experiences, as well as raise professional awareness in a manner that serves the public good and benefit the community in general.

For his part, the chairman of IESBA, Dr Stavros Thomadakis, gave a speech during which he thanked SOCPA and its CEO, Dr. Ahmed Al-maghames, for their cooperation in organizing and hosting the workshop.

Many topics were discussed as part of the workshop's agendas, including IESBA's Technology Initiative on the impact of advanced technologies on the ethics of the accounting profession and the ethical and legislative framework for the use of such technologies, in addition to discussions on raising confidence in accountancy-related work under the use of advanced technologies. Other topics of discussions also included the role of corporate governance officials in identifying and addressing risks associated with the use of advanced technologies.

The workshop was moderated by Mr. Nabil Al Mubarak, CEO of Saudi Credit Bureau (SIMAH). The workshop was attended by a group of highly respected professionals in the accounting and auditing field, namely: Professor Brian Friedrich, Chairman of the eCode Advisory Group at IESBA, Dr. Khalid Al-fadagh, member of the boards of directors and audit and risk committees in many companies, Dr. Faisal Al-Shehri, Vice Dean of the College of Business Administration at Taibah University, Mr. Tariq Mohamed, Head of Audit at KPMG, and Mr. David Clark, Technical Advisor at IESBA.
