SOCPA Continues to Hold Workshops for the Initiative to Harmonize Educational Outcomes with Labor Market Requirements.
The Saudi Organization for Chartered and Professional Accountants, in partnership with Prince Sultan University, organized a "virtual" workshop entitled International Standards for Financial Reporting in Universities Curricula presented by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nur Al Nabi (Head of Accounting Department at Prince Sultan University) and Professor Matthew Tilling (Cambridge University and Adviser to International Standards at Asian Development Bank). 109 faculty members from accounting departments in Saudi universities participated in the workshop. SOCPA aims from holding this workshop is to enhance awareness of some specialized fields in accounting and auditing according to the latest developments in the profession and to research ideas and best practices that reflect the knowledge and skills required to be available in students of accounting departments and contribute to the development of educational curricula.
The workshop included a number of topics such as looking at the positions and overlapping of international standards in accounting curricula, discussing strategies for integrating international standards into accounting curricula, in addition to defining the main accounting standards that must be taken into account, and discussing possible methods for engaging students around international standards.
Opening remarks of the workshop were made by a member of the Training and Education Committee, Dr. Musab Al Naim, in which he explained that the workshop comes as part of a series of workshops that SOCPA was keen to organize to contribute to the support of the educational sector in the field of accounting and to enhance cooperation between SOCPA and universities in a way that enhances the educational outputs and the development and qualification of students.
