SOCPA Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Ahmad Al-Mughames also serving as Chair of the Regional Partnership for Enhancing Sustainability Reporting in Gulf and neighboring countries participated in a high-level panel discussion during the 42nd annual meeting of the Intergovernmental Working Group of Experts on International Standards of Accounting and Reporting (ISAR42).
The session was titled: “Review of Developments in Harmonizing Sustainability Reporting Requirements and Their Practical Implementation.”
Dr. Ahmed Al-Mughames participation highlighted the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia leading role in aligning with and adopting international sustainability standards. He reviewed the country’s efforts in translating, developing, and supporting the regulatory and professional framework for sustainability reporting, underscoring the Kingdom’s commitment to transparency, governance, and global best practices in non-financial reporting.
During the panel, Dr. Ahmed Al-Mughames presented an overview of the current adoption of sustainability standards across the Middle East, and outlined SOCPA efforts in translating and adopting the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) standards, in addition to strengthening professional capabilities through specialized programs and initiatives to enhance awareness and technical readiness.
He also highlighted national initiatives aimed at harmonizing sustainability reporting requirements and improving compliance in both public and private sectors aligned with Saudi Vision 2030 and its sustainability-focused programs to reinforce trust and improve the quality of non-financial reporting.
The session received strong engagement from participating international experts, who commended Saudi Arabia and SOCPA for their active role in supporting global sustainability reporting frameworks and enhancing international cooperation in developing and implementing sustainability standards.
